Who We Are!
Who Are We? (from Ellie, a high school peer leader, 4/7/20)
A young team builder is someone who inspires ideas and encourages positive change in individuals.

We are the gateway into a world of challenging people and inspiring them to seek discomfort.
I firmly believe that these adventure and team building programs are changing our world for the better. We inspire ideas that allow people to experience new things and challenges that teach important life lessons. We encourage positive change in our participants that allow them to learn new concepts about themselves as well as take on a positive outlook of the world around them. As young team builders, we are encouraging growth and self-discovery, as well as building a better reality for ourselves and others.
Who Are We? (from Frances, a high school senior and team builder, 3/23/20)
To me, young team building is so important because at least in our case (having an adventure program within our high school), it gives students genuine connections in a school of 4,000 kids. While relationships are built in other clubs and activities, the unique thing about our adventure program is it brings together a class made up of a diverse range of interests, views, ideas, and backgrounds. Kids who are in business classes are doing team building with students in art programs - connections are made outside of individual niches. As well as, interconnectivity between hobbies and clubs at school, our program also connects across grade boundaries as well. Older juniors and seniors facilitating an adventure class suddenly become another source of strength and an anchor in such a large school for newer freshmen and sophomores.
The biggest reward for me, however, is seeing my leadership and facilitation reflected in some of my younger students. Students that I taught in their very first adventure class are now leading alongside me in a class this semester. It’s pretty gratifying to see that you inspired passion in someone else and gave them the opportunity to grow and experience what leading is like for themselves.

Something as simple as seeing a face light up in the hallway lets me know, as a young team builder, that I’ve connected with one of these students and given them a space they know they are welcome.

Who Are We? (from Charlotte, a high school sophomore team builder, 3/13/20)
My role as a young team builder is to lead a class at my school called “Adventure Challenge Course.” It is a semester long, student-led class that takes a group of students, from our school, through a progression of trust and team building from basic ice breaker activities all the way up to belaying each other on the challenge course.
My role in this class is to facilitate activities with my group of leaders. This also means creating strong bonds with my students. I choose to lead because I want to pass on the impact that adventure has had on me to other people.

This class has changed my life and I hope that I am able to make that impact on other people. I want my students to feel the love and connection of being part of a community that is strong and accepting of all.
